Open to the Public • Art • Food • Drinks • Great Conversation

2020 was a tough one for everyone, and we thought as soon as 2021 hit, we would all be waking up from a bad dream. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues… but it doesn’t have to lose all color! Which is why West and Main presents Art at the Market!

Come join us to have a quick to-go bite from Magasins (a local restaurant and small business owner), a beer from Prairie Artisan Ales (a local brewery), a chance to win a raffle by Prelude Coffee Roasters and Balance.Yoga.Barre, and best of all… beautiful art from local artists.

This month we will be hosting Connie Rish and Shelby Mae whose art you just have to see in person. We give these artists a free space to display their unique pieces for the public to see. West and Main will give you direct contact to the artist, if you choose to purchase any pieces, and will not be taking any proceeds or commissions for any sales. This is our way to support our local artists, and bring color in a time that feels a little dark.

This will be an art walk style where you come in, view amazing art, grab some goodies and enjoy 8th Street Market for its amazing hybrid indoor/outdoor space for great conversation. We will require masks to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Art at the Market will be hosted the first Friday of every month where we will display different local artists and always have yummy drinks from Prairie and mouth watering food from Magasins. We would love to see you!

About the Artists:

Connie Rish

“I cannot remember a time when I did not love to create art. Even though I went on to other things in my adult life, I always returned to my first love. When I found myself at a point in life that I could choose what I wanted for “Me”, I chose art. I sought out professional training, and found the perfect fit, at the Conservatory for Classical Art, in Edmond, OK.

After completing the intensive four year atelier classes, and one year of independent study, I completely submerged myself in all forms of art mediums, ultimately choosing all things of Nature, Landscape, and Botanicals in Oils. Experiencing Nature always brings me peace, and I continually find myself in awe of its beauty. With the botanicals, I prefer to represent them in a super enlarged format.

This perspective draws the viewer in, on a very intimate level, to the subjects magnificently engineered design. The classical discipline is always present, but many of the impressionistic principles find their way into my work as well.” - Connie

Shelby Mae

Shelby Mae of Salt Fork Art graduated with a Fine Art degree and a minor in Art History from Oklahoma State University. She has exhibited in shows such as: Small Works in Clifton Springs, NY, El Corazon in Dallas, TX and Once Upon a Time in Stillwater, OK. In 2021 Mae looks forward to participating in the Stillwater Arts Festival and in the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition’s Momentum show.

“My paintings are inspired by nature. I utilize the “dirty pour” method of fluid art, which is an abstract form of art that uses acrylic paints with a thinned consistency.”

The dirty pour includes layering these thinned acrylic paints in a cup which is then flipped upside down onto a canvas. Once the cup is pulled away the acrylic paint colors mix and flood over the canvas surface. Gravity, straws, palette knives and a torch help to finish the composition creating the final look of these paintings.
