About the Artist:

Abby Stiglets

I was born in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to start high school. I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma as anArt Major with a Minor is Psychology.

I enjoy painting because its therapeutic for me. I feel more confident andable to communicate better than in person. I usebold colors thatpush for the attention that I would normally try toretreat from.I allow myselfto be open and let the viewer in.

I, like many others, battle with social anxiety.I get easily flusteredand so afterward,I tend to dwell on conversations that happened and repeat them over and over in my head. I wonder if I said something wrong or if I came off a certain way, or if they could tell I was holding back. I have a constant fear of being exposed, someone seeing through my mask. I show this struggle sometimesin my work, with symbolism, like anatomical hearts or bird cages.

My latest work is centered around the greenery of plants, especially Pothos/Devil’s Ivy. I show them coming out of heads to representgrowing the mind andthe thirst for knowledge. During the early stages of the pandemic, myhusband and I got to step back, away from our work and other tasks that would consume us, andfocus solely on ourtwo daughters. It was a blessing amidst all the chaos. My plant pieces remind me of how we grew as a family learning about ourselves and each other.

My paintings are created using water-mixable oil paints called Max by Grumbacher. They have the advantages of oil paint without the use of pungent solvents and can be mixed with acrylic paint and/orregularoil paint.

My art is full of influences.I am inspired by the surrealist work of Salvador Dali, the women featured in Gustav Klimt’s pieces, Frida Kahlo’s reflective self-portraits andpop surrealist artists like Mark Ryden, Mab Graves,Greg "Crayola" Simkins, and Naoto Hattori. I also like to study fashion and religious imagery.

Angel Jaramillo

Angel is self taught and specializes in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her work has been displayed in several shows across three states and has taken several awards. Her body of work includes well over a hundred pieces at this point in time.

Starting her artistic journey in Tennessee and later continuing on in Florida, she is heavily influenced by the mountains and ocean she once called home.

Angel took a brief hiatus from her work during 2018-2020 after a difficult divorce that led to homelessness, but has since returned to pursuing her art career full time with new fervor. Angel participates in several exhibitions each month and teaches weekly acrylic classes at The Community Art Gallery. A 28 year old Oklahoma resident, Angel is a full time Christian artist, art teacher, and homeschooling mother of three.
