Denver is No. 1 among 50 cities where women should start a business, according to the latest research from Business.org, and 29% of metro businesses are female-owned.
To determine the rankings, Business.org looked at the percentage of female-only owned businesses, the unemployment rate for women, the pay differences between women and men, and the number of new businesses per capita from sources including U.S. Census Bureau, the Annual Survey of Entrepreneurs and the American Community Survey.
Rounding out the top five are Orlando, Austin, Portland (Oregon) and Los Angeles.
The factors were weighted on the following scale:
Percentage of women-owned businesses: 40%
Number of new businesses per 100,000 people: 30%
Women-to-men pay difference: 20%
Unemployment rate for women: 10%
