Breckenridge: 81 Miles from Denver

Breck - as some call Breckenridge - is by far my favorite mountain town…..in Colorado.

From Main Street, to the skiing, to Oktoberfest…to the troll... it is simply the best!

Main Street in Breckinridge puts a smile on my face. It may be the bars and restaurants, the hanging plants on the lamp posts, or the shopping. Or it is all of it combined. Just steps off of Main St. you can enjoy fly-fishing on the Blue River! There is also several art galleries and the creatives come out on the 2nd Saturdays of the month for family art time - filled with crafts and are for the kiddos. The above photo is a statue that can be found on Main St. to honor the Tenth Mountain Division, captured at first snow one year.

My first Oktoberfest experience was in Breckenridge. A group of basically strangers - rented a 1 bedroom condo and bought steins! We were up early to begin the drinking fest that starts early. The event is already on the calendar.... and ironically is always in September. Ok - its not ironic - Oktoberfests are celebrated in September because it is almost harvest season - and the townspeople had to finish last years beer to make room for more! (There are a few other reasons or theories - but this one is fun!) I grew closer to some of those strangers - and our group has grown over the years - and we still enjoy the beer season together!

Have you heard of the Breckenridge Troll? Who knew a 15-foot wooden troll made would cause so much drama! The troll was originally built in 2018 - had to be taken down - and then rebuilt in 2019. Hiking to the man is definitely worth the trip - don’t forget to take a photo!
