Meet G.M. Karas + ViM
G.M. Karas is a Denver based artist who has been refining his techniques and style over the course of the last decade. Originating in photography and music, his creative practice evolved while attending Columbia College in Chicago to include painting and performance. The culmination of this relentless passion erupted into the raw and beautiful collection, ViM. The body of work takes you through his extraordinary world and vibrant journey, discovering the inexhaustible veracity of physical and spiritual identity.
In the year 2021 he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has since been gearing his work towards mental health advocacy and awareness. Within this new journey embarked upon, he aims to bring insight into these issues, as well as to become a safe place to the many who go through life with the same or similar afflictions lost and alone.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I like to spend time with my wife. We like to go shopping for clothes and home décor, dancing, to all of the restaurants, to find fancy cocktail bars and we like to dream of traveling all over the world.
Who/What are your biggest influences?
The artists that influence and inspire me the most are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama, Leonardo da Vinci, Cy Twombly, Betye Saar, Elaine Sturtevant, and Robert Rauschenberg.
What is your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is that I live with Bipolar Disorder and OCD. Pushing past those and focus only on the creative process can be very difficult at times.
What is your dream project?
My dream project would be a collaboration with Gucci.
If you had a choice between two superpowers, being invisible or flying, which would you choose?
Flying
