Joy on the Trails is a blog series detailing all the incredible hiking trails within an hour of Denver. All the trails featured are accessible to anyone new to hiking, or just wanting to get out without driving for hours into the mountains. I hope you uncover your own joy of hiking and I hope you’re inspired to try a few of my favorite trails. And if you’re so inclined, join me sometime… I’m out there a lot!

Chavez and Beaver Brook Trail

I hadn’t done this hike in years, and my daughter reminded me that we used to come to this area when she was a toddler and do a very short interpretive nature trail with braille signs and a guidewire for the blind!

The start of this trail is easy (for a sighted person), and then heads onto a fairly moderate six mile loop that is stunning. You’ll cross a bridge, check out a cool waterfall, and see some pretty breathtaking views.

This trail isn’t too steep, and is a great mix of forests and open vistas. It really has a perfect Colorado feel with strong pine scent and dry gravel under your feet. Since the hike is longer, plan to bring food and on a warm day you can take your time and enjoy a picnic.

This trail is just off I-70 at Genesee… a quick jaunt from Denver. Parking is limited, but this trail isn’t very well known. So now you know one of my secrets!
