White Ranch Upper Longhorn and Maverick Trails
It’s warm, masks are no longer a thing on hiking trails, and we’ve had one of the wettest Springs in recent history! This is a perfect combination for wildflowers and long afternoons on the trail.
I have White Ranch on a regular rotation in my hiking calendar because it truly is my favorite park in Jefferson County. The west lot is up high and overlooks Golden and Arvada. The trails are not usually crowded and have a wooded mountain feel. I consider it quintessential Colorado hiking!
The route that includes Maverick and Upper Longhorn trails is definitely pretty easy with not much incline and gorgeous views. This route is about three miles and I can get it done in about an hour and a half… this is a pretty leisurely pace because I stop for the views and for a snack.
I’m reflecting on the dozens of times I have hiked this loop and the thing that stands out for me is the consistency of the terrain, the feel of the trail, and easy access to (weekday) parking. It’s just a great stand by hike… and if you’re looking to add to your list of hikes you can do on a lunch break, or quickly after work in the summer, add this one. It never disappoints!
