Joy on the Trails is a blog series detailing all the incredible hiking trails within an hour of Denver. All the trails featured are accessible to anyone new to hiking, or just wanting to get out without driving for hours into the mountains. I hope you uncover your own joy of hiking and I hope you’re inspired to try a few of my favorite trails. And if you’re so inclined, join me sometime… I’m out there a lot!
Mount Falcon, Turkey Trot Trail
Ready to work off your second slice of pumpkin pie this Thursday? Hit the Turkey Trot Trail at Mount Falcon in Morrison!
This trail starts out steep right out of the parking lot, and then gets steeper. It’s no joke… so go ahead and load up on mashed potatoes with gravy. We got you.
Mount Falcon Park is a great place for mountain bikers, but just a few yards from the trail head, hikers will head up Turkey Trot Trail where biking is off limits. The uphill climb is for about two miles through exposed trail and finally through a gorgeous mountain forest.
At the trail junction, if you had thirds at dinner, you’ll need to head right and keep climbing. The Castle Trail heads uphill for another mile where you’ll get to explore the Walker Summer Home ruins… super fun historical site worth the climb.
But if you restrained yourself, or just don’t care about the extra holiday lbs, just take a left and head downhill back to your car. You’ve done a three mile loop so call it good!
From me to you… Have a wonderful holiday with your family and I sincerely hope you take the time to hit the trails!
