Botanical Water Season
West + Main Downtown Denver 2632 Blake Street, 6-9pm
Artist: Rebekah Robinson
I am intrigued by the often unseen or un-noticed scenes of nature. Many of these scenes are from botanic gardens that I visit in my travels. It could be a branch in a stream that I can revisit or the abstract nature of ice melting along a lily pond.
What is your background?
I attended the Colorado Institute of Art for graphic design, Metropolitan State University for printmaking, and the University of Colorado for photography. I was an early member of the Colorado Graphic Art Center where I continued to explored printmaking. Most recently I have been part of the Art Students League of Denver’s Summer Art Market.
Who inspires you?
The two artists that have inspired me the most are David Hockney and Henri Matisse. Both artists explore pattern and color. Their use of color and the negative space I can relate to. Hockney’s Pools explore the ripple of the water. The landscapes explore the texture of all four seasons. Matisse's use of color, pattern, nature, and architectural elements make his still lives come to life for me.
What inspires me?
I’m drawn to the textures that happen in nature. The repeated pattern in nature intrigues me. These textures and patterns of nature can appear in unusual places. Leaves floating on a shallow pond with seaweed floating underneath really inspire me. I live near the Botanic Gardens so I’m able to slip over there often and check on my favorite spots.
