When I moved back to Colorado in September 2016 - some friends had moved away. Some friends had gotten married and had kids - and were not up to weekend getaways!
I knew I had to make some new friends... but keep the old! Lucky for me - I met a few new friends and was invited on a trip to Crested Butte with 17 people! THIS. IS. MY. JAM! A few of us girls collected $25 each and decided to make appetizers and dinners for the trip! We had a taco night and a spaghetti and meatball dinner! But that was just a few hours of our trip. A few of us went snowshoeing, several went skiing or snowboarding, a few of us explored the town - and all together - we went out one night and pretty much took over a small bar in the center of town!
One of my best memories of this trip was meeting my friends cousin. Long story - so I will try to keep it short. My friend is from Vermont - and spent some time in Massachusetts - where I am from - but we met here in Denver. He introduced me to his cousin who just bought a house in Massachusetts. He asked where I was from - I said Western Mass - near Springfield. He said he bought a house in Granville! I said no way - that is where I grew up (most people have never heard of Granville - a town of less than 1400). Turns out - he bought a house within a mile of where my parents still live! I knew exactly the house as I grew up with the previous owners grand kids! I asked him to keep an eye on my parents!
Why was this trip planned? To ski of course! If you have a ski trip planned - check out the webcams here! CB is knows for some of the most challenging terrain in Colorado - are you up for the challenge? My friend took the above pic while on skis!

CB is knows for some of the most challenging terrain in Colorado - are you up for the challenge? The resort website also says:
"Located off the beaten path, Crested Butte is known for some of the best lift-served extreme terrain in the nation. Home to first winter X Games, the longest extreme skiing competition in the world, quirky costume events and our friendly vibe, Crested Butte is a place you want to add to your bucket list.
If you are not a skier or snowboarder, there are still a plethora of activities for you to enjoy as well- surrounded by 1.7 million acres of National Forest, you can snowshoe, fat bike, and cross country ski, right out your front door in any direction."
There are a few destinations across the US - that have famous cemeteries - the cemetery in CB may not be on the list as far as famous people - but it has spectacular backdrop. My friend Alisa (@woodtwerker) visited - and took the below picture. The history is remarkable in the cemetery - as it dates back to many of the miners back in the very beginning of Crested Butte. The beginning of the CB story dates back to the 1860's. The big attraction back then was the "extensive coal deposits". Back in 1880 - the population was about 400. Today there is over 1600 residents - and more than 1600 visitors each weekend.
WINTER - Do you ski? Snowboard?
SPRING - Mud Season - but skiing ends in April.... and biking starts soon enough….
SUMMER - Another nickname is "Wildflower Capital of Colorado"... there is even a festival in July!
FALL - "Free Camp on Washington Gulch Road" just to name one idea….
