The Minnesota Zoo is bringing back live music to Apple Valley after a 3-year hiatus.
Beginning this Thursday, the Minnesota Zoo’s new live music series, Wild Nights, will host nine music festivals scheduled for every other Thursday evening until Sept. 14.
Wild Nights is somewhat of a rebirth of the zoo’s 27-year-old Music in the Zoo series, which was called off in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main difference is that the new music series will not host touring performers but will focus on local artists.
Each Wild Nights event will host about six local musicians or bands across three stages from 6 to 10 p.m. The 18-plus events will also host food, drink, and artisan vendors.
While each event will include local music acts from Minnesota and Wisconsin, Wild Nights plans to feature multiple music genres, with each night having their own themes. The first music theme on May 25 will be Indie Rock. The Indie Rock lineup includes Yam Haus, Kiss the Tiger, DJ Astrolex, Gully Boys, The Swongos and DJ Matty Matt.
Other themes include: Global Beats and World Music; Indie Soul, Rhythm and Blues; Americana and Alt Country; Blues, Soul and Jazz; Hip Hop and Reggae; 80s, 90s and New Wave; Funky Jam and Boogie; and Mashup.
Wild Night attendees can also expect trail and habitat access, free parking and silent dance parties. Single tickets start at $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
