The Winter Park Ski Train Will Run Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday

When Amtrak resumes Winter Park Express ski train service from Denver’s Union Station in January, service will be expanded to include all Fridays as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

And while January may seem a long way off, that’s no reason to procrastinate. Tickets are on sale now, so you might want to jump on it now to lock in the dates you want.

Service last year included only two Fridays a month, along with all Saturdays and Sundays. This year, the train will run Friday through Sunday every weekend from Jan. 10 through March 29. Fares start at $29 each way for adults and are available at Amtrak.com/WinterParkExpress. Tickets are sold separately, so you don’t have to return on the same day. You could, for example, go up Friday and come back Sunday, or even go up Sunday and return the following Friday.

This will be the second season of snack and beverage service in a sightseeing Lounge Car with windows curving from the ceiling nearly down to the floor.

Trains depart Denver at 7 a.m. and arrive around 9 a.m. They leave Winter Park at 4:30 p.m. and arrive back at Union Station at 6:40 p.m. Each ticketed adult may bring a child, age 2-12, for half the adult fare.

Winter Park Resort is scheduled to open Nov. 13. Check out a list of when the rest of Colorado’s ski areas open
