Where to Adopt a Pet in the Oklahoma City Area

Oklahoma City-area pet adoption options

The adoption fee for cats and dogs has been reduced to $30 at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter.

All pets are spayed or neutered, have a microchip, and have had age-appropriate shots and a health check. The shelter is open from noon to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week at 2811 SE 29. For more information, go to www.okc.petfinder.com and www.okc.gov.

The shelter is adopting at 15-minute intervals between noon and 4:45 p.m.

To make an appointment, go to okcawadoptions.youcanbook.me. Pick a time and confirm your appointment with your name, email address and phone number. If you don't have internet access, call 405-297-3100 to schedule an appointment.

Please contact area shelters before visiting. Some shelters may be closed, have adjusted hours of operation or only available by appointment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bethany Animal Control Shelter: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month, 5100 N College, 789-3431.

Central Oklahoma Humane Society Center: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays, 7500 N Western Ave., 286-1229.

Edmond Animal Welfare Shelter: The shelter is open on a limited basis and adoption fees are waived while work continues on an expansion project. Adoptions are by appointment only by calling 405-216-7615.

El Reno Animal Shelter: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 2400 Spur Lane, 262-8883.

Free to Live: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closed Wednesdays. Four miles north of Waterloo Road on Western Avenue, 282-8617, or www.freetoliveok.org.
