Open to the Public • Art • Food • Drinks • Great Conversation

2020 was a tough one for everyone, and we thought as soon as 2021 hit, we would all be waking up from a bad dream. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues… but it doesn’t have to lose all color! Which is why West and Main presents Art at the Market!

Come join us to have a quick to-go bite from Magasins (a local restaurant and small business owner), a beer from Prairie Artisan Ales (a local brewery), a chance to win a raffle by Prelude Coffee Roasters and Balance.Yoga.Barre, and best of all… beautiful art from local artists.

This month we will be hosting Olivia Lynn Means and Lizzie DiSilvestro whose art you just have to see in person. We give these artists a free space to display their unique pieces for the public to see. West and Main will give you direct contact to the artist, if you choose to purchase any pieces, and will not be taking any proceeds or commissions for any sales. This is our way to support our local artists, and bring color in a time that feels a little dark.

This will be an art walk style where you come in, view amazing art, grab some goodies and enjoy 8th Street Market for its amazing hybrid indoor/outdoor space for great conversation. We will require masks to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Art at the Market will be hosted the first Friday of every month where we will display different local artists and always have yummy drinks from Prairie and mouth watering food from Magasins. We would love to see you!

About the Artists:

Olivia Lynn Means

Olivia+Headshot.jpeg

I’m Olivia Lynn Means. I am the face behind Olivia Lynn Art. I am a Christ follower, mother of 3 amazing kids, firefighter wife, and hairdresser. I was born in Oklahoma City where I lived until first grade when my father’s job relocated us to Arlington, TX.

I have always had a love for art! In junior high and high school, I took art classes, which is where my love for painting began! After graduating, I knew I wanted to attend hair school.

In 2002, I became a hair dresser and have been behind the chair ever since! I consider hair dressing a form of art and my clients are my canvases! I’ve always loved being creative and making things beautiful!

During the pandemic, I was drawn back to paint brushes and blank canvases. I found such peace and stillness in my paintings. I felt a nudge from God to pursue this gift He has given me, and with the encouragement of family and friends... so it began!

Lizzie DiSilvestro

My name is Lizzie DiSilvestro, a neutral magpie with a colorful personality. Originally from Kansas City, I grew up in a loud and passionate family that taught me self-expression as a basic instinct and necessity to get a word in at the dinner table. Fiery, honest and emotional since the womb, I’ve never known another way of being. Without the help of my parents and paternal grandmother, Grandy, encouraging my creative pursuits, who knows how that energy would have manifested. I believe it was Grandy’s love of the word ‘joy’ and appreciation for the little things that inspires the subject matter of my work to this day. Given the chaotic and dizzying pace of my mind, I use painting and fiber arts to both achieve and illustrate the state of humble fulfillment I find so precious.

Trained as a nurse, I’m fortunate to have constant reminders of how we can find joy amidst turmoil and love during pain. My dad used to tell me, “Most of life is not spent in the highs or lows, but somewhere right in the middle,” and that’s always rung so true for me. Very rarely do we have a ramp up to the opulent moments in life, instead they exist right alongside the mundane, coming up out of nowhere. But if we can find joy in those languid “in-between times” we won’t lead a life of continual wanting. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than the contentedness and warm simplicity that results from finding joy in the ordinary.
